LSU and Lehigh got a half inning in before sunny skies gave way to a deluge that soaked the Alex Box Stadium infield and left the LSU grounds crew scrambling to corral a brand new tarp in time.
Lightning was detected at 3:36 p.m., starting a mandatory 30-minute clock. The game can only start after no lightning is detected within that 30-minute window. Every time a strike is detected, the clock starts over.
LSU starter Alden Cartwright breezed through the first inning, getting the top of the Mountain Hawk lineup in order, freezing Mike Garzillo with a fastball that painted the outside corner to end the frame.
Just three minutes later, the rain began.
